Christiana Raymond-Pope, PhD, researcher in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), led by Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology, published an article “Restricted Physical Activity After Volumetric Muscle Loss Alters Whole-Body and Local Muscle Metabolism.” in The Journal of Physiology.

Sarah M. Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), contributed to a manuscript published in Xenotransplantation entitled, “Xenotransplantation and exotransplantation: strategies to expand the number of donor organs.”

Sarah M. Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), contributed to a manuscript published in Xenotransplantation entitled, “Xenotransplantation and exotransplantation: strategies to expand the number of donor organs.”

Angela Bruzina, MS, a current Kinesiology graduate student and Christiana Raymond-Pope, PhD, a researcher in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), led by Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology, both attended and presented at the 2022 International Symposium on Regenerative Rehabilitation held in Austin Texas, October 27-29.

Shefali Bijwadia, a second year medical student and researcher in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), led by Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology, was selected to present her work at the AMA Research Challenge, occurring virtually starting October 20, 2022.

Sarah M. Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), contributed to a manuscript published in Circulation entitled, “Cardiac xenotransplantation: the clinical impact of science and discovery.”

Alec Basten, a recent Kinesiology MS graduate published an article “Early initiation of electrical stimulation paired with range of motion after a volumetric muscle loss injury does not benefit muscle function” in Experimental Physiology.

Shefali Bijwadia a second year medical student and researcher in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), led by Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology, attended and presented research at the combined Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota Research Symposium held in Rochester, September 14, 2022.

Christiana Raymond-Pope, PhD, researcher in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), led by Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology, both attended and presented research at the Military Health System Research Symposium held in Orlando FL, September 11-15.

Sarah M. Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), contributed to a manuscript published in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, entitled, “Mechanisms and strategies to promote cardiac xenotransplantation.”

Greising presented a poster titled “The neuromuscular junction after injury, how to jump start reinnervation” at the conference within the session "New perspectives on the neuromuscular junction".

Sarah M. Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), along with Liz Boyer, PhD, clinical scientist at Gillette Children's Health Care, received a grant from the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM).

Sarah M. Dan Hoffman, MS, a PhD candidate in Kinesiology and member of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), was selected to give a talk during the Regeneration of the neuromuscular and myotendinous junctions section of the FASEB Skeletal Muscle Stem Cells and Regeneration Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana July 24–29, 2022.

Shefali Bijwadia, a first year medical student received a University of Minnesota Foundation Medical Student Research Grant. The grant provides $3,000 of stipend support for 8 weeks of research over the summer.

Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), and colleague Jarrod Call, PhD, from the  University of Georgia, have co-edited a book entitled, "Regenerative Rehabilitation: From Basic Science to the Clinic" published by the American Physiological Society APS, in partnership with Springer Nature.

Sarah Greising, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL), contributed to a manuscript published in Tissue Engineering, Part A.

At this year's Golden Goldys annual banquet, Bethany Hasz, a graduate student in the School of Kinesiology and track and cross-country runner for the U's women's teams, was awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor, being one of the two University of Minnesota recipients. Also, Alec Basten, a School of Kinesiology graduate assistant studying exercise physiology and a member of the U of M's men's track and field team, was honored as a 2022 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.
