My research interests and background revolve around plasticity of the neuromusculoskeletal systems, in particular mechanistic and physiologic changes as they relate to traumatic injury, disuse, degeneration, and aging. I completed my doctoral studies with Dr. Dawn Lowe at the University of Minnesota where I examined two models of aging. My postdoctoral training in the lab of Drs. Gary Sieck and Carlos Mantilla at the Mayo Clinic focused on detrimental changes to the respiratory system, specifically due to aging, spinal cord injury, and perturbations in neurotrophic signaling. I went on to complete research as a Research Physiologist at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research within the Extremity Trauma and Regenerative Medicine Department and I joined the faculty of the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota in January of 2018.
